The Neck

This is my work log of how work with the neck progressed:

When doing this, do not forget to think about the body too. There are many things to keep in mind, one example is how the distance of the neck effects the location of the bridge. I made both the body and the neck at the same time.

Before you commence with this you will need to choose what dimensions you want for your neck, you should also consider if you want to use a truss rod or not. I decided the dimensions during the work, but I do not recommend it.

2nd of February:
Today I tried to glue the fretboard to the neck, but I aborted since I was not sure that it would become straight. I have to find another method to get it glued correctly.

3rd of February:
Today I have though of another strategy that might work when gluing the fretboard. I will fasten a woodblock on the body that is straight compared to the bridge, and then I will use this to know the exact location for the fretboard.

5th of February:
Today I have glued the fretboard onto the neck, I began with adjusting the extra wood that I glued on a bit earlier so that it became flat. Then I used wood blocks to build up from the bridge so that the fretboard will become straight, I was surprised over the fact that the bottom of the neck actually is completely straight. The earlier work really have been a success.

After this I had a point which I could use to get the fretboard on the right location, I simply lay much glue on the middle of the neck and then I used a piece of wood to smooth it out on the whole surface. Then I lay the fretboard on the neck and fastened it with the clamps.

(Worth mentioning might perhaps be that I had the neck fasten with the torx screws when placing the wood blocks and until I had fastened two of the clamps. Then I removed the screws and the neck from the body and attached yet more clamps...)

After the gluing process I took the whole neck upstairs since the basement is pretty cold.
